February 8 thru 10, 2021, Doug Visits Mesa, AZ

My brother, Doug, took a little road trip from Tennessee and made it to Mesa, AZ. We still had the motorhome parked at site 168 so he had a private room. Sadly, we did not get to introduce him to all of the park's amenities (closed due to covid) but we did get around to a few of the local sites.

We drove out to Tortilla Flats for a look around. Along the way, we stopped to admire the desert and even look for interesting rocks.

While we were out that way we stopped at the Goldfield Ghost Town and watched the gunfight on Main Street.

The next day we drove to Sedona but made a quick stop on the way to visit Montezuma Castle National Monument in Camp Verde, AZ.

In Sedona, we hiked the Little Horse trail to the Chapel of the Holy Cross.

We finished our Sedona visit with a trip up Airport Road for the beautiful view.

Another day Doug and I drove to Tucson to visit the Pima Air & Space Museum. They had a very nice collection of vintage aircraft. We certainly got our steps in and later at lunch we realized we actually missed a couple of hangers. I guess they will have to wait for the next trip.

Not far from the museum, we made a quick stop at the Aviation Bone Yard at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. An actual tour would have taken most of a day so we settled for a view from the roadside.

Next, we drove up the Mount Lemmon Highway and were struck by the intricate rock formations along the way.

Poor planning on my part meant we did not get back down the mountain in time to watch the sunset amongst the saguaro cacti - something else for next time.

Sadly, the weather started looking like a problem with snow forecast in the higher elevations. That was going to impact Doug's route home so he chose to cut his trip short a couple of days. We were certainly happy to have Doug visit and hope he will return soon.
