OK, this morning it really was early - around 5:20 - when I rousted Joani out of bed.  We could hear a light rain falling on the roof, but I insisted we were going to spend one early morning looking for wildlife at the proper time of day.  The park gates were unmanned, so we headed right through.  The first light was just barely illuminating the lake, but it was obvious just how calm it was.  After a couple of initial pictures, we headed for Waterton.

I thought the Inn would look nice backlit by the sunrise.  It might have been a lucky guess or wishful thinking, but I think the pictures say it all.  We had to fight off mosquitoes hungry for their breakfast, but I don't think the lighting could have been much more perfect!

Taken at about 5:42 a.m., the sun is still very low.

Taken at about 5:47 a.m., the color is starting to intensify.

Taken at about 5:49 a.m., the sun is just about to crest the horizon.

Taken at 5:53 a.m., the sun had peaked the horizon and was setting the trees ablaze.

At 6:08 a.m., the sky looks like cotton candy.

The town was still asleep.  Everything was so quiet.  One other photographer was also trying to quickly find the money shot.

These lucky residents look out at this sunrise every morning (or sleep through it).

Once the sun was up enough to quiet the colors a bit, we headed out the Red Rock Parkway again looking for wildlife.  We were distracted by the beauty in the field surrounding the road, but as you can see below we eventually had a chance to capture some wildlife.

It stopped sprinkling and tuned into the perfect day.

An amazing array of wildflowers dot the rolling hills.

This is the second time we fell for it!

It looked so real!

How many heart rates have been elevated by this trickster?!

This grizzly (is that a hump on his back? If not, then black bear) was real and looking for breakfast.  He was very far in the distance (my camera's zoom is maxed out.)

I think this very young black bear looked more like someone in a bear suit.

It was such a beautiful day!

Clearly, it pays to roll out of bed at dawn to maximize wildlife viewing.
