Sinks Canyon State Park, Landers, WY was not far from the ranch, so we decided to visit.  We had no idea what to expect, but it was so completely different from where we were staying it was a surprise.

Only a few steps from the visitor's center was an overlook where you could see the stream disappear into a cave.  It re-emerged about a quarter of a mile further down the canyon.  It really creeped me out!  I kept imaging what it would be like to get caught in the current and be swept underground.  Apparently, people have explored the caverns, but they never made it all the way through.  Needless to say we stayed back from the waters edge!

The map showed a road with a few switchbacks that led to an overlook at the top of the ridge.  We climbed a long time before Joani checked the GPS to find we crested the ridge at a little more than 8,600 ft.  It was a surprisingly good road considering it essentially went no where. It joined up with several unpaved forestry roads that we did not feel the urge to explore.

We headed back home for some dinner and a Big Bang Theory marathon (I think we watched season 4).  It's good to just veg sometimes.
