There was probably a lot more to see and do in the Las Cruces, NM, area but we needed to continue on our way. Our next stop was in Pecos, TX. The trip was 254.3 miles (72,271.6 total) which was a little longer than our recent average, but still very manageable.

This is a common thread (abandoned buildings) along the route to Pecos, TX.

80 miles per hour is lost on our motorhome. (David seldom goes past 65 mph.)

I don't think anyone would ever describe Pecos as the garden spot of Texas. It was an oil town. It seemed like 3 of every 4 vehicles were trucks covered in mud. I saw quite a few license plate too covered with mud to read. The workers tramped everywhere in mud-covered boots. Stores and restaurants had given up trying to keep the floors clean, so they were covered with dirt.

Our plan was to dry camp for three nights at the Escapees Tra-Park, allowing us to see a few sights, before continuing on. Across the street from our site was the regional airport. I heard the distinctive sound of some WWII vintage planes and caught a group of four taking off. I wondered if they were headed for the Cactus Fly-in in Casa Grande, AZ.
