Wow! Truckers like to get started early. They started moving out around 5:30. I was up, so it was interesting to watch the ballet of trucks dodging each other on the way out. I knew the correct exit was to the right, but about half of the drivers went left, which lead back to the road as well. I suspect they knew there would be quite a back-up if they all went the same way.
We had a short drive today, so we were in no hurry. Thanks to a suggestion from my mom, we modified our route bypassing Nashville completely using Tennessee highway 840. It added a few extra miles to our modest trip of 127.8 miles (73,716.4 total), but the new pavement and limited traffic made it great.
The Tennessee hills are probably at their best when spring colors start bursting out. It certainly was a contrast from the desert southwest!
Castle Gwynn, a replica of a 12th-century Welsh border castle, has a very interesting backstory.
There was a little confusion getting into our place. The manager forgot we would be in this morning, so she wasn't in the office. After a few calls, she just gave us a gate code and said we could take care of the paperwork when it was convenient for us. You have to love the small town atmosphere!
