Monday, June 10, 2019, Move to Green Mountain Falls (Colorado Springs), CO

One last look around the park (Riverview RV, in Loveland, CO) allowed us to finally get a picture of this nice carving. Actually, we were stalling a bit because we had a short drive planned today. We hate to arrive at our next campground and have to wait for someone to vacate our site.

We headed south through Denver to the Colorado Springs area. Denver traffic was heavy but we always seemed to be headed in the right direction and missed most of the back-ups.

Rocky Top Campground was in Green Mountain Falls, CO, 13 miles west and about 2,000 feet above Colorado Springs. That entire 13 miles, by the way, was uphill (signs said it was between 4 and 7 percent grade all the way). Our trip today was 139.4 miles (93,625.7 total).

The Denver skyline is always impressive, but the traffic heading north looked dismal.

Once we settled in our campsite we checked our altitude. According to Google Earth, we were at 8,001 feet above sea level. I believe that makes this the highest we have ever camped. I remembered we had a bag of chips we bought in Loveland, about 3,000 feet lower - it was about ready to pop!

I know, what business did diehard low carbers have buying chips! What can say, we were weak.

We are hoping this campground will grow on us a bit. It's not in great shape but look at our view. Today someone in Arizona posted it was going to be 105 degrees there. Here we had a light breeze and 67 degrees.

Maybe the word to describe our campground was "run-down." It appeared it was built quite a while ago but the electricity had been upgraded to 50 amp service and the laundry room had new washers and dryers. The real irony was that this campground needed to see pictures of our coach before we could make a reservation.

David is being kind, the words to describe this campground are "it's a dump." Why am I judging it so harshly? They asked us to send pictures of our coach since it is older than 10 years (it's 20 years old) and they are charging us $42.80 a night (that is with the weekly discount!)

I don't think we will be playing any pickleball on their court.

There is so much to do in the area (we have about 10 outings planned for our two weeks here.) The upside - there will be no time to play pickleball!

I love lilacs! Georgia does not get cold enough for lilacs to grow (a hybrid, yes, but not the real thing).

I'm not sure there is a coach in here that is newer than 10 years but they all look nice. The upside - look at that view.

The laundry room adjacent to the dump station was a bit odd.  The upside - nice new machines at only $1.75 per load. The funny thing is, David meet a nice couple while doing a load and the first thing they said was "this place is a dump."

That's our site right next to the Chuckwagon. I wonder if it will open. The upside - look how close we are to the old, but very nice clean showers (and the dump station, nobody will use it since they all have full hookups.)

    1. Oh! Did I misunderstand his need for pictures! He maybe wanted proof that we were not too new! That would require closeup pictures showing the peeling clear coat and checked paint. Joani
