Saturday, June 1, 2019, Western Colorado Botanical Gardens, Grand Junction, CO

As much as we like to capture photos of wildflowers, you know we would not pass up the opportunity to visit the Western Colorado Botanical Gardens in Grand Junction, Colorado. Free admission with our membership in the American Horticultural Society made it even better.

euphorbia milii, Crown of Thorns

One of the most unusual blooms I have ever seen dangled from a tree-sized hibiscus.

Orchids are always interesting and so varied. In the hothouse, there was a large table overflowing with all manner of orchids.

So close to the desert they had a nice collection of cacti - not to rival the Desert Botanical Gardens in Phoenix but still a wide variety, many still in bloom.

 Clematis, The President

The bullfrog croaking was clear throughout the gardens but they blended in with the lily pads and were sometimes difficult to spot. This one was practically posing for me as was the turtle below.

David enjoyed helping the little kids spot the bullfrogs.  All in all, we spotted 6.
