We almost opted for a drive to the top of Pikes Peak (14,115 feet) today but decided we needed to acclimate for a few more days before trying it. Instead, we ventured into the Garden of the Gods (6,400 feet). What an amazing landscape of uplifted rock.

It was serendipitous we chose not to drive up Pikes Peak today - all we would have seen was fog. From Garden of the Gods, there was no chance of seeing the peak hidden in the clouds.

Yes, that is a view of Pikes Peak rising majestically above the red rocks completely obscured by clouds.

The roads around the park offered views of most features but some required a bit of hiking. Below was the Siamese Twins. We were lucky enough to find parking where we downed a few snacks before setting out on the one half mile trail.

While all of the trails are dog-friendly, Sam is no longer the hiker he once was. We were almost back to the car when he gave out and let me carry him. Good thing he's not as big as he thinks he is.

When Sam is done, he's done. He just sits down and won't budge. It was not hot and it was a short hike, but possibly the 6,400-foot altitude didn't agree with him.

On our way out of the park, we passed Balanced Rock. There was no point in trying to find parking because it was swarming with visitors. We decided we would return to the park but much earlier in the day next time.
