Friday, October 18, 2013, Tide pools and Sunset at Shell Beach, CA

The refrigerator did some obnoxious beeping in the middle of the night, so I just turned it off and went back to sleepIt wasn't going to fix itself, so I had to spend some time troubleshooting the problem. After consulting the service manual, lots of poking around on the control board and finally, a call to my repair guy in Georgia, the refrigerator was cooling again. Unfortunately, we did not know why it needed to be reset, so we would have the same problem again later, but first, we spent the day doing some more sightseeing.

Shell Beach had a park with the intriguing name "Dinosaur Caves." It turned out many years ago there was a large cave and the owner started building a large concrete dinosaur to promote the cave. The dinosaur was never finished (neighbors complained) and the cave collapsed, but many years later the residents named the park in memory of both.

Statice is a favorite along the coast. It's everywhere!

The cliffs provided great views of sea lions and shorebirds and interesting rock formations.

We spent enough time in Shell Beach that we were able to see the sunset. It was spectacular! We will have to come back again before we leave the area.
