Monday, October 7, 2013, Move to Bakersfield, CA

We had thought about a few more days at the marina, but Joani found a place in Bakersfield with an opening, so we decided to move. Bakersfield was 241.7 miles (5,220.7 trip/64,701.8 total) down I-5, so it was a pretty easy trip, even if it was a bit longer than our average (I have really become spoiled!) Joani's Aunt Maggie and Uncle Jim live in Bakersfield, so we were looking forward to seeing them. Bakersfield River Run RV Park turned out to be a very nice park with wide level spots and great amenities. I will be using their hot tub this week as often as I can!

Maggie called and invited us for dinner. Their house was only a few miles away from the campground. They have a beautiful house in a cozy gated community. We had a nice surprise when Joani's cousin Mindy joined us for dinner, along with her family. I think the last time I saw Mindy she might have been 14 years old. What a change seeing her with her husband Russ, daughters, Rebecca and Samantha (both Seniors this year) and son, Daniel (a freshman in High School). Joani had her camera, but we were so caught up in conversation we forgot to take any pictures. Jim cooked burgers on the grill and we finished dinner with some great brownies. What a fun night!
