Saturday, April 5, 2014, The Town of Kanarraville, UT

Sam has shown me most of the small town of Kanarraville, UT, on his morning walks. Today Joani joined us with her camera. Below is the campground, Red Ledge RV, located at 15 N Main Street. The town hall and the Post Office are across the street. The town has one church and little else. There are no restaurants, grocery stores, markets, schools or gas stations (currently operating, see below). That probably explains why it is so quiet around here.

Two blocks to the west of Main Street is the biggest house in town. It appears to be freshly built and includes one of the nicest ironwork fences in front of a nicely kept yard. What I liked most was the huge stand-alone L-shaped garage with an RV door and five regular garage doors.

Around the corner were a couple of other new houses that had to be built by the same contractor in the same style making us think they might all be part of the same clan. We liked the size and simplicity of the small craftsman house below.

Walking Sam one morning I found this house undergoing a facelift. I thought they were doing a pretty good job and wanted to show Joani. She noticed the back was not quite as far along. Clearly, something major happened here. Did the back of the house collapse and the dejected owner just gave up? Maybe the owner is in the motorhome in the driveway and is thinking about how to add a new back room to the project. I think this house has a lot of potential and I might just have to ask if I ever see anyone outside when we walk by.

Two blocks from us are the remains of a gas station. I could not tell if there is any kind of business conducted there today but someone at least had a sense of whimsy and half of a truck to create this rather unique display on Main Street.

Obviously, it has been a while since these pumps were used. The last gas from them was pumped at 35.9 cents/gallon.

Less than a mile from the center of town is an upscale farm with this barn. I have no idea what they might do in a glass roof barn but it certainly looked clean and new. Another mystery to investigate.
