Sunday, January 13, 2019, Crystal Mine Revisited

Even though the skies were threatening rain we headed back out to the Crystal Mine. The "we" this morning only included Sharon and Loren and Joani and me. This time we simply drove the car - not nearly as exciting but definitely more comfortable if it rained (and quicker).

Equipped with tools this time, we were ready to dig for treasure. Clearly, I would have never made it as a miner. I was through with digging in less than an hour with absolutely nothing to show for all of my efforts. I decided pictures were my treasure and captured the desert cloud drama all around us.

Joani raided the tailings of someone else's dig and found an impressive array of crystals even if they were small.

My entire crystal haul found almost entirely around the hole dug by the Colorado couple we met on our previous visit.  These would be their rejects that were too small for their eBay clientele.

Very few are over an inch in length.  A bath in Oxalic Acid should remove the iron deposits.  We'll see.

Everyone else was ready to go after about an hour and a half of sitting on the hard ground digging in the rocky soil. About five minutes after we packed up and headed out the skies opened up and it started raining - that was some great timing!

Since it was a re-do kind of day we headed to the Arrowhead Bar again to try some more of their delicious half-pound burgers. The Arrowhead was small with few patrons but the food never disappointed! Overall another very satisfying day in the desert.
