We headed back to downtown Portland, OR, today for some more exploring. It was a lot quicker the second time when you knew where you were going. We revisited the White Stag building again (I thought the sign was a reindeer!) as a starting point.
A gem among rooftops.
A very helpful and friendly Portlandian.
We saw some different vendors at the Saturday Market and then walked towards the city center. Portland is surprisingly compact - it was pretty easy to walk to almost everything.
There are many colorful people at the Saturday Market.
I suspect it is pretty obvious we both like architecture, so it probably isn't surprising we each took a few hundred pictures of buildings at odd angles or reflected in new modern glass buildings.
Can you see the Transformer hiding on this building?
At Voodoo Doughnuts, they claimed, "The Magic is in the Hole." I don't know what that might mean, but there were a lot of folks waiting for an opportunity to get theirs! I'm not sure if there is ever a line this long at Krispy Kreme Doughnuts.
This building looked like a watercolor painting.
We returned to the car and drove to Washington Park to visit the International Rose Test Garden. It was up in the hills providing some very nice views of the city. Many of the roses were past their prime, but we found a few pretty blooms.
A little further up the hill was the Pittock Mansion. The grounds were beautifully kept and, again, the views of the city were spectacular. The easterly facing setting provided a nice view of Mt. Hood poking up through the clouds.
The mansion was being renovated so there were scaffolds in front of a lot of the structure but we found a few shots that hint at the style and grace of the house.
