Indian Waters RV Resort in Indio, CA, was previously a Thousand Trails park where people would buy into a home park for lots of money and then have the opportunity to stay some number of nights per year at a pretty low rate. The park apparently was not well maintained and was finally sold. The new owner has invested a lot of money in improvements and, according to many, the park has seen a dramatic change for the better.
We spent Saturday and Sunday shopping in the area. There is every store franchise you can imagine within just a few miles. In between outings, I did some clean-up outside the coach. Mostly, it seemed like I spent a lot of time just soaking in the desert sun or just soaking in the large spa. December in Indio and Indian Waters, in particular, has certainly been a pleasant surprise.
On Monday evening I headed to the clubhouse for some Bingo hosted by Ron and Beth. I'm sure I must have played before, but I don't remember when. It turned out to be a lot of fun and I came out ahead by winning several of the rounds. Some of the folks spend the entire winter here and will not leave until next February or March. That gives them lots of time to get acquainted which just gives it a really friendly atmosphere. There were a lot of good-natured jabs between Ron, calling the numbers, and the people who were not getting their numbers called.
There was a session Tuesday to help people with their smartphones and tablets. I headed over since there is always something new to be learned. I found a map app that saves all of the maps on your device so they are available even when the internet is not. We discussed other apps that we each use on the road and I learned about a few more I will have to try called "iexit" and "Carbonite mobile."
Wednesday night we tried Card Bingo. That was different and a lot of fun. It reminded me just a little of Bunco but not quite as frantic. It is played with one deck of cards and four people at each table. The cards are all dealt out (each person has 13 cards) and they are arranged face up in front of each player. The caller has one deck and names each card from the top of the deck. As the cards are called the players place the cards in a discard pile hoping their cards are all called first resulting in a "Bingo." The number of tables is unlimited and each round can include variations such as starting with discarding all face cards or discarding everything under five. Each player has three nickles, three dimes and three quarters and one dollar. Each antes up at the beginning of the round and the winner collects the money from every table. Of course, the last round with each person in for a dollar is the one to win. Sadly, neither Joani nor I won any rounds, but we still had a lot of fun.
